The Sally Dress

Seen The Nightmare Before Christmas? If so, then surely you will recall Sally.

I decided this would be a cool, funky, and not over-done costume to wear to DragonCon. But, the one and ONLY commercially available costume was DREADFUL! I could not just buy a packaged costume and wear it anyway. So, I set to work. With no pattern and hardly any precedence to follow, which consisted solely of screenshots snagged from the movie (as I could only find pics of about 3 girls even wearing this as a costume around the internet and none of them were of any use to my plight), I set to work.

I analyzed, drew up sketches, and went fabric shopping.

I dare say, what I've come up over the past few months looks pretty friggin close, IMHO, to the real thing. There are a couple of pieces of fabric I would have preferred to be different, and the color looks a bit off from some of the prints, but I found enough of what I needed to work with, at least. Had to have most of the stuff shipped in, even after scouring all over town!
As close as could be hoped, anyway. From the back it's not as perfect to sketch as I had in mind, but it worked up together nicely all the same! I have to say I'm pleased with the outcome, because I didn't know if I could even come up with a wearable item in my first try at sewing all those random bits all together.... LOL. Whew!!!!!
Now the hard part is going to be Sally's stitches. She's all sewn together. I have a wonderful concept, but we'll have to see how it works out in reality. I'll keep you "posted."

Oh, it looks terrific! What a fun costume, and it looks like it should be comfortable to wear, too. (Sometimes, con costumes look like pure agony to wear.)
