I decided to change this blog from just stuff I've sewed, into costumes I'm working on (or have completed) in general, since I don't actually sew that much! It'll give me a place to keep up with my stuff.
1) I finished up what all was needed to have an Arwen costume and wore it to Imagicon on Saturday. It was the easiest costume yet! I wore her Coronation gown. I had honestly planned on sewing a dress but when I went looking around online and found a commercially-available costume that looked as good as this one did (usually I would rather wear NO costume than do that!), I could not resist. I already had the ears, and suitable shoes, and the Evenstar pendant. I just had to find a headpiece. Miricalously, I came across a suitable Butterfly Crown on eBay and at Annie's Halloween shop online! Ta~Da! Costume done.
This one was a natural choice for me because my friends already tell me I remind them of an elf, haha. Maybe it's because I'm always wearing my ears in my pics... Hmmmm.....
2) I started to re-vamped the Sally costume and was planning to wear it this weekend but backed out at the last minute. I just didn't feel I had enough time to finish up the changes. Changes: needs to be blue, needs better facial markings. Have the blue part addressed, just have to re-attach stitches to the new blue arms/legs.... And, it's going to be at least a little bit of a pain to paint my face & neck blue. I just wasn't ready to deal with it for this event! So now I have to decide if I'd like to throw this one back into the DragonCon mix or not.
3) I think I may have gotten infected with this Steampunk bug. Not that I really have anything Victorian to wear, but it's just cool.
What's Steampunk? "the trend of combining the best of Victorian England with technological advances that didn't actually take place until a hundred years later"
But I'm computer techy. Incorporating that into Victorian wouldn't really work. Or would it? Mmmm, keyboards.

4) And I have definitely caught the bug with the Lolita stuff. Again I don't really have the proper attire for it, but I have a couple of pieces coming together for something. It's just so darned CUTE that I can't resist.
What's Lolita? Well, the trend is popular in Japan and essentially consists of an outfit that looks like it belongs on a baby-doll. The more frilly and ruffly the better!
It is "a youth fashion among Japanese teenagers and young women. It emphasizes Victorian-style girl's clothing and often aims to imitate the look of Victorian porcelain dolls." "appearing deliberately cute to the point of looking childish"
Of course there are several "flavors" of the style that have evolved, especially Gothic Lolita.
"The Lolita look consists primarily of a knee length skirt or dress, headdress, blouse, petticoat, knee high socks or stockings and rocking Horse or high heel / platform shoes."
5) And, of course, the Corpse Bride is still on the table.
6) Yikes, and I want to do a Catwoman costume. Just bought a mask! And got some gloves that should work. Already had a bodysuit, just have to do some stitching on it. Just need a whip and might need new boots, but otherwise this one is well underway, at least.
Too many costumes!? Nahhhhh, no such thing...
